3rd year Painting student, Alison McCoy is excited to be bringing her degree show, ‘ReCollection’ to Glasgow at the end of April. This exhibition represents the culmination of nine years of study towards a BA (Hons) in Painting and explores the slippery nature of memory through paint and narrative.
This body of work was prompted by memories of family holidays in the Northeast of Scotland and, more generally, of a childhood growing up in Glasgow. Now living in Devon, Alison has made the decision to stage her exhibition back in its spiritual home where the memories and fragments of memories were formed.
By combining large abstracts representing a non-specific memory of a specific time and place, and small figurative pieces depicting a specific memory of a non-specific time she builds a partly representative, partly imagined landscape of times past which she hopes will trigger memories in the viewer allowing them to reconnect with their own personal histories.
Students and tutors from all disciplines are welcome to come along.
