About the Artist

Kirsty Lockhart is an artist and illustrator from Dundee. She studied Illustration at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD) and Ontario College of Art & Design (now OCADU) and continues to work in Dundee. Kirsty's practice is strongly based in observational drawing from life and she is a compulsive sketchbook keeper; drawing in cafes, pubs and waiting rooms, on public transport and during online meetings. Most of her portraits are done at speed in order to catch fleeting emotions and expressions. Kirsty's recent exhibition at Federation Gallery in Dundee, 'Journeys on the 28 bus', featured 150 speed portraits of passengers on her local bus. Her illustration clients include the NHS and Scottish Government. After her weekly life drawing class was aborted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she began drawing her colleagues during Zoom calls instead. Kirsty now runs Pencils4Tea, an Instagram community and weekly speed portrait drawing group on Zoom which is attended by artists from all over the world.

About Pencils4Tea

Pencils4Tea is an Instagram community of artists from around the world, currently hosted by Kirsty Lockhart with occasional support from other Pencils4Tea artists. They meet weekly on Zoom from 6-7pm UK time for an hour of speed portrait drawing to music. For each track, Kirsty asks one of the attendees to pose for the length of the track. No one is under any obligation to pose if they don't want to, but artists are respectfully asked to keep their cameras on. The playlist changes weekly and tracks are always on average between 2-5 minutes long. Some of the Pencils4Tea community are practising artists and others just enjoy a weekly fun hour of drawing! Pencils4Tea is free to join and open to all.

Everyone is welcome at our OCA x Pencils4Tea collaboration!

Join us bi-monthly on the last Wednesday of the month.

This event has a group. You’re welcome to join the group once you register for the event.
