Keeping up Momentum: Kin: Bloodlines and Beyond

A two-part workshop themed around family, in all its complexity, to inspire and motivate you to experiment creatively, while connecting with other students and having some fun along the way.

Drawing from anthropology, philosophy, and contemporary art, we’ll explore ideas of kinship, belonging, and identity, from inherited myths to caregiving, from pets as family members to homes and gardens as emotional territories. We’ll touch on the evolution of family structures across cultures, the politics of inheritance, memory and legacy, gender roles, generational language gaps, and the constructed performances of identity. 

Participants will collaborate in teams to create a mini-project, to be presented at the second session, as we consider the meaning of kin, and how our creative practices can help us reimagine our personal and collective stories.
